3D, or 'oestereoscopy', is a technology that has been around since the early 1930s, when two images taken from slightly different angles were shown to different eyes through a viewer. The brain then combines these images to give the illusion of depth, and hey presto you have 3D. Since then it has fallen in and out of favour, with the biggest boom in the 80s with the classic red and blue glasses.
