Adjusting your glasses

Although every effort is taken to ensure that your glasses arrive to you in perfect condition sometimes, your eyewear may need a little adjustment.

Adjusting your glasses

Although every effort is taken to ensure that your glasses arrive to you in perfect condition sometimes, your eyewear may need a little adjustment.

Adjusting your nose pads

If your frame has nose pads, and not fixed plastic nose rests, you can adjust the way your nose pads fit by following these instructions:

  • Grip the glasses firmly
  • With your thumb and forefinger hold the nose pad
  • You can then move the nose pad slightly in or out by applying light pressure
  • Repeat this on the other nose pad
  • Try the glasses on to check the adjustment
  • Repeat this process until you are happy with the fit of the glasses.

Adjusting the arms of your frames

If you find that your glasses are slipping down your nose or the arms are pinching behind your ear you can adjust the way that the arms of your glasses fit, by following these instructions:

  • Put on the glasses and mark on the arm where you need the bend to start
  • Take off the glasses and heat the arm at the current bend point with a hairdryer or hot water for 20-30 seconds. Take care not to burn yourself!
  • With your thumb and forefinger apply gentle pressure to straighten out the original bend of the arm.
  • Reheat the arm again for another 20-30 seconds.
  • Using your thumb and forefinger apply pressure to make a smooth curve in the arm at the point you require the new bend to be.
  • Try the glasses on for fit. Repeat the process until you are happy with the fit of the glasses.
If you have ordered rimless glasses or you are at all unsure on making the adjustments yourself we advise that you contact us and we will arrange the return of the glasses so that our qualified laboratory technicians can make the required adjustments for you.

FAQ's

How do I return my glasses for adjustment?
Up
If you are returning your glasses for adjustment please send them with a details description of the alteration required on the returns form and if possible enclose a photograph of you wearing the frame. This will help our laboratory technicians identify the problem and rectify this for you.

Can I return my glasses for an exchange if they do not fit?
Up
es. If the frame you have chosen does not comfortably fit you can return the glasses using our prepaid return lable for an exchange. We would recommend you using our frame fit finder to help you select an alternative frame that will fit you more comfortably.

Can the arms of my glasses be made longer?
Up
The bend in the arms of your frame can be adjusted however the arms themselves can not be made longer. Each frame that we sell at Direct Sight has a specific size. You can use our frame fit finder to filter frames with the length of arm that you require.

Can the arms of my glasses be made shorter?
Up
The arms of your frame can not be made shorter, however, the bend in the arm can be adjusted to tighten the fit of the frame. You can follow our simple instructions on how to make this adjustment yourself or you can return the glasses to us for our laboratory technicians to make the adjustment for you.

How are nose pads attached to my glasses?
Up
Nose pads are usually attached to the frame by very small screws. If the screw falls out then the nose pad will detach from the frame. If a screw that holds a nose pad in place needs to be replaced then a small screw drive will be required.

What tools are needed to make adjustments to my glasses?
Up
Small adjustments to frames can be done without any tools. A hairdryer to heat the frame maybe required or a small screwdriver if a screw from a nose pad or hinge needs tightening or replacing. Many adjustments can be done at home, however, we would always advise returning your glasses if you are unsure on how to make the adjustments yourself.

Do I need to return my glasses to Direct Sight for adjustment or can I do it myself?
Up
If you are happy to make the adjustments yourself by following the instructions on our website then, yes. However, if you are at all concerned or you have a rimless frame we would recommend returning the glasses to us so that one of our laboratory technicians can make the adjustment required to the frame for you.

What if I break my glasses when adjusting them?
Up
If the glasses develop a fault that is deemed a manufacturing fault then we will happily replace the frame for you free of charge under warranty. If you have taken out accidental damage protection on your glasses we will replace the frame free of charge for up to 12 months from the date of dispatch if you snap the frame. However, if you do not have accidental damage protection and the frame has not developed a manufacturing fault then a new frame would need to be purchased. If you are at all in doubt we would recommend returning your glasses to us for one of our laboratory technicians to make the required adjustment to the frame for you.
