Buddy Holly Style Icon
Musician Buddy Holly was a true rock and roll icon in the years before his untimely death in 1959. Known worldwide, he is cited as the influence for many music legends including The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and The Rolling Stones to name a few.
In 2004, Holly was ranked at number 13 in Rolling Stone Magazine’s “The 50 Greatest Artists of All Time.” A true legend in the world of music, we take a look at his instantly recognisable fashion - including those oh-so-fab nerd glasses.
Tailored jackets
When on stage performing, Holly always opted for a long line tailored blazer with suit trousers and smart shoes. The jacket made the singer look incredibly smart, and he maintained his cool demeanour on stage. Often the blazers Holly wore had interesting lapels including fur to give his outfit an interesting feel.
Casual Cool
During laid back performances, Holly often opted for woollen sweatshirts for comfort which made the star look like your average boy next door.
Bow Ties
Buddy Holly was often seen sporting a smart bow tie and shirt combination underneath his recognisable tailored blazers. This made for an ultra smart look which is now seen as the trademark Buddy Holly look.
Nerd glasses
Last but not least is Buddy Holly’s large, thick framed glasses. The black style goes hand in hand with Holly’s overall look, and this glasses style is definitely making a comeback in the fashion world. Both men and women wear the geeky glasses look, and stars such as Jay Z and Zooey Deschanel champion the look regularly.
