Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative Takes Off
3D, or 'oestereoscopy', is a technology that has been around since the
early 1930s, when two images taken from slightly different angles were
shown to different eyes through a viewer. The brain then combines these
images to give the illusion of depth, and hey presto you have 3D. Since
then it has fallen in and out of favour, with the biggest boom in the
80s with the classic red and blue glasses.
However, the new millennium has brought more 3D programming to us than
ever, and today we have several dedicated 3D channels, as well as
specific televisions and blockbuster films in glorious 3D. The problem
that is starting to emerge now is that as companies develop better
technology, they tended to keep it exclusive to themselves, making a
difficult choice for the average consumer.
This is now well on the way to being solved with the 'Full HD 3D Glasses
Initiative', a collaboration between the big boys in the industry
Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and X6D that has been launched this month. It
aims to bring together the research done by these companies to both
standardise and enhance the technology for the general market. How
effective it will be is yet to be seen, but these utterly stunning new
designs by Samsung get them off to a promising start. If they can
produce more minimal and sleek design like this, that give a better 3D
experience, then it can only be a good thing!
