Olympics Fever: Futuristic Eyewear for Olympians
While most of us mere mortals have little chance of breaking the world record; soon we will be able to live vicariously through our TV sets with the London Olympics. Athletes on parade during the opening ceremony, will show off their sleek, colourful, functional and futuristic eye wear. Two of the world's leading sports designers, Oakley and Adidas, have a range of glasses that can be used for cycling, running, golf any other strenuous outdoor sports. The 2012 Olympics will feature sports sunglasses that will move and shake fashion trends in the next few years. The sporting elite aren't the only ones with access to awesome new sunglasses, spectators can get their hands on them too!
To commemorate the London Olympics, Oakley has released their Olympic Dreams range of sunglasses. Oakley has been named as the official sponsor of the American team and also an official licensee at London 2012. They launched their glasses at the Olympic Village recently with a lavish soiree, along with members of the European teams. The new range features switchlock technology, a feature that allows the lens to change within seconds, to optimise visual capacity in fast-moving sports environments. Spectators can purchase from the range, including special edition Olympics sunglasses Scalpel and Radar.
Since 1928 when founder Adi Dassler made a range for sunglasses for Olympians at the Amsterdam Games; Adidas has been a part of the Olympics. This year, the brand has strived to create a range for the unpredictable outdoors environment in London with rain, high winds, sunshine and dark clouds all a daily occurrence, even in the summer. The Adidas Evil Eye Halfrim is a rather sexy, sleek and colourful model, that is both durable and light; and therefore is suitable for triathletes, cyclists and runners. The glasses naturally protect against harmful UV rays and have a real sports performance aspect to them. The lenses are made from a polycarbonate twenty times stronger than glass and three times lighter.
There is a non-slip function at the bridge of the nose, that can be customised to the wearer. These glasses are ideal for fitness fanatics who want to combine elements of comfort, fashion and lightweight durability. For the couch potatoes out there, now could be the right time to get some cool shades and get inspired by the sculpted bodies and disciplined minds of the Olympic athletes. The sun is here, at least for now, so why not get active!
